2009年5月2日，澳洲正式宣佈國防安全白皮書。Kevin Rudd其實在4月25日的ANZAC DAY前夕揭露了主要的內了，The Australian也報導了相關的消息。這份國防安全白皮書，其實就是由我原本的博士論文指導教授Carl Ungerer所主導，裡面的強硬內容的確不像工黨的風格，不過以我的指導教授性格以及對中國的了解，產出這份國防安全白皮書內容，其實我根本都不會感到意外。

THE navy will acquire a formidable arsenal of long-range cruise missiles for its new submarines, destroyers and frigates, able to strike at targets thousands of kilometres from Australia's shores.

The new-generation submarines and major surface warships will be fitted with land-attack cruise missiles with ranges of up to 2500km as Australia becomes the first regional defence force to have the potent weapons system.

The cruise missiles will give the Government "options to conduct long-range, precision-strike operations against hardened, defended and difficult-to-access targets, while minimising the exposure of ADF platforms and personnel to attack by enemy forces", the defence white paper says.

Reflecting the Government's consciousness that the planned maritime defence build-up could provoke criticism from regional neighbours, the white paper asserts that acquisition of land-attack cruise missiles is "fully consistent with Australian treaty obligations and customary international law".

備受中國各界關注的"楊佳襲警案"10月13日（周一）在上海市高級人民法院第五法庭進行了馬拉松式的二審。庭審結束時法庭未當庭作出宣判，但作出擇期宣判的決定。

It is one of the ironies of politics and history that when the candidate of change was pondering what he would do if he actually got elected President, he turned to the man who eight years before handed over the White House keys to George W. Bush. Former Clinton White House chief of staff John Podesta had met Barack Obama only a few times before the Democratic nominee summoned him to Chicago in August to ask him to begin planning a transition. Podesta supported Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries and had little in common with Obama beyond the fact that they are both skinny guys from Chicago. Yet it is hard to think of a Democrat in Washington who can match Podesta's organizational abilities or his knowledge of the inner workings of government. And Obama was already giving plenty of thought to the crucial 76 days between the election and the Inauguration. "He understood that in order to be successful, he had to be ready," says Podesta, who is now a co-chairman of the transition team. "And he had to be ready fast."

對於約旦河西岸的印象，大致都是來自於媒體的報導，澳洲的媒體當然著墨比台灣多太多了。不過不是自己研究相關的對象，所以也不太注意這裡。上週出席本所的博士班例行seminar，當天提出論文計畫的有兩位，其中一個主題是和Hamas有關。presentation上，他秀出了不少他在約旦河西岸拍的照片，我向他索取了兩張蠻有意思的。一張是一名軍人趴在牆上被小女孩搜身的畫面，一張是一名游擊隊丟擲一束鮮花的照片（不是丟擲手榴彈）。當然，他所秀出的照片很多，實在不好意思全都向他要，所以僅向他索取兩張。

後來上網找了不少相關的圖片，約旦河西岸長長的那道圍牆，有著不少的塗鴉創作。最後那兩張則是在1990年倒下的柏林圍牆塗鴉。

約旦河西岸，位於以色列和約旦之間，因為在約旦河以西，因此台灣媒體習慣稱之為約旦河西岸，西方稱為West Bank。1948年，第一次以阿戰爭後，約旦河西岸被納入約旦領土。1967年第三次以阿戰爭（六日戰爭）之後，由以色列佔領。這地區的主權具有高度的爭議性，大部分是控制在以色列手中，而巴基斯坦自治政府也在此有限度地治理。巴勒斯坦在1988年通過獨立宣言，宣布在約旦河西岸與加薩走廊（Gaza Strip）建立巴勒斯坦國，首都位於耶路撒冷。2005年，以色列撤出在加薩走廊的駐軍與墾民。

日本八戶市市議員藤川優里，1980年出生，爸爸也是前議員。看來自民黨應該會徵召她參選國會議員。八戶市為了拉抬觀光，還藉由她來拍DVD寫真介紹八戶市。

2008年11月19日，寫真集與DVD同時發行。

SOMALI pirates struck again overnight, seizing an Iranian cargo ship holding 30,000 tonnes of grain, as the world's governments and navies pronounced themselves powerless against this new threat to global trade.

Admiral Michael Mullen, the US military chief, pronounced himself stunned by the pirates' reach after their capture of the supertanker Sirius Star and its $US100 million ($154 million) cargo.
Commanders from the US Fifth Fleet and from NATO warships in the area said that they would not intervene to retake the vessel.

前些日子閱讀The Australian看到了Review那份專刊有一張澳洲與日本在二次世界大戰時的海報，好奇上網查了相關的海報，發現還有蠻多當時的相關海報。特地找了日本與澳洲的海報，不過也看到一張山姆大叔的募兵海報，特地將它也放上來。

這張就是The Australian的Review專刊上放的海報，不過The Australian在這張海報上，還用特效加上了左右各一個澳洲與日本的軍事將領照片。

KEVIN Rudd has foreshadowed a dramatic expansion of the Royal Australian Navy to counter a military build-up being bankrolled by Asia's growing economic prosperity.

The Prime Minister last night warned that nations across Asia were modernising their military forces, particularly with more powerful jet fighters and submarines, and that Australia must respond with its own upgrade.
