昨日，李志德先生的《賽德克．巴萊 我方的歷史》一文，闡述了政治機器長期利用霧社事件做為中華國族精神的宣傳。其實，早在霧社事件發生時，霧社原住民也並不是台灣民族運動者眼中的「台灣人」。無論是日本學者若林正丈的台灣抗日民族主義四種分類：「與中國統一陣營」（祖國派、待機派）以及「與中國分離陣營」（台灣革命派、一島改良派），抑或是《想像的共同體》譯者吳叡人所分類的「自由主義合法民族運動派」、激進台灣民族解放路線的「台灣共產黨」與「民眾黨」等台灣民族主義運動者，這些民族主義運動菁英在當時根本不將「番人」劃歸在「台灣民族」（Taiwanese Nation）的論述中。直到霧社事件發生後，他們才意識到要將原住民與台灣民族主義抗日運動劃上連結。
